Kendrick's Missed Opportunity

Writer: Dan BergerDan Berger

Sunday’s half-time show was an opportunity to inspire every American to belong. It was political theatre instead.

Sporting events are a belonging path for many. Fans are a part of the team they are rooting for. They are connected to those standing next to them, who are donning the same colors, and oohing and ahhing with them at every play.

The Super Bowl is belonging on steroids. It brings out the superfans. And it makes Americans feel like we all belong to the same culture for one night.

The half-time show is a big part of that. But for Kendrick Lamar, and anyone involved with his production, it was an opportunity to sow division. They chose to weaponize America’s stage in order to push identity politics instead of unifying us.
