Alcohol Has No Place At Work

Alcohol doesn’t belong in professional environments.
I didn’t always think that.
At Social Tables, we built our culture around happy hours (one happy hour a month was NA). While there are benefits to creating a "startup culture" from the carefree vibe alcohol introduces, drinks + work are a recipe for disaster.
Alcohol creates risk: someone running their mouth ("what's on a sober tongue, is on a drunk tongue"), behaving inappropriately, or just embarrassing themselves.
Today, I firmly believe that alcohol has no place in the workplace and even at professional events (like conferences). And even at a networking mixer.
I am aware that it might be the self-righteous addict that's in recovery in me talking, but nonetheless, I think that alcohol is a crutch and the risk is just not worth it.
Let's do the work needed to find ways to create a real sense of belonging instead of the illusion that alcohol gives.
