As our team size has inched towards the 60 person mark, I became concerned that my newer coworkers weren’t going to interact with more tenured team members on a deeper level.
My concerns were validated during my quarterly company-wide one-on-ones where I heard from many coworkers that they wanted to make sure new employees got the same attention that they once did.
To address this, I came up with a quick exercise. I took a deck of playing cards and made every person pick a card at random. This automatically split our company up into 13 teams of 4 (all the Jacks, Two’s, etc). I asked each team to plan an outside-of-work activity in the next 30 days.
Try it out sometime and let me know how it goes.
